The JET Programme presents an exciting opportunity for Filipino citizens to work as Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) in Japan. As an ALT, your role will include:
- Assisting Japanese Teachers of English in preparing teaching materials.
- Supervising extracurricular activities such as English clubs and sports.
- Organizing cultural and international exchange programs.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be Filipino citizens with a bachelor’s degree, proficient in English, and in good mental and physical health.
They should demonstrate an interest in Japan, its education system, and a desire to work with children.
Additional points are given to applicants with a degree in education or English, professional teaching experience, or Japanese language skills.
Key Responsibilities of ALTs:
Teaching Assistance: ALTs will collaborate with Japanese Teachers of English (JTEs) to enhance English language education.
This includes supporting the preparation of teaching materials, helping create engaging lesson plans, and participating in classroom activities.
Extracurricular Involvement: ALTs will plan and supervise student activities outside of class, such as English clubs or sports events.
These activities provide additional opportunities for students to practice their English in a fun and informal setting.
Cultural and International Exchange: ALTs play a key role in promoting international understanding.
They are encouraged to introduce aspects of their home culture and organize exchange programs that foster cross-cultural learning among students and the community.

To ensure you qualify for the JET Programme, the following criteria must be met:

- Good Health: You must be both mentally and physically healthy to handle the responsibilities of living and working abroad in a new environment.
- Adaptability: Living in Japan requires flexibility, adaptability, and the determination to complete the full duration of the program. This includes adjusting to Japan’s working culture, laws, and daily life.
- Bachelor’s Degree: Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or obtain one before the designated arrival date.
- Filipino Citizenship: Only Filipino citizens are eligible to apply for this specific program.
- English Proficiency: You must be adept in contemporary standard pronunciation, rhythm, and intonation in English. Additionally, you should possess excellent language abilities and be able to form sentences in a clear, logical manner.
